What is the France Excellence Yersin Scholarship?

Since 2000, the Consulat General of France has supported more than 140 students from Hong Kong and Macau to pursue a Master's degree in France.

The France Excellence Yersin Scholarship goes hand in hand with promoting the excellence, diversity and quality of French higher education, and encouraging deeper cooperation between France and Hong Kong as well as France and Macau. Through the scholarship, we aspire to create remarkable leaders who strive for further developments and international understanding in their respective fields.

The scholarship covers one year of studies and training in a Master 1 or Master 2 (grant period cannot exceed 2 years).

Eligibility

Hong Kong or Macau permanent residents
Planning to pursue a national Master’s degree or equivalent in France from 2024. For programmes lasting more than 1 year, a renewal application will be required
Not holding French nationality or dual citizenship which includes French nationality
No concurrent scholarships except from your institution. If your institution grants you a scholarship and you obtain the France Excellence Yersin Scholarship, your institution will need to provide a letter acknowledging and agreeing to the accumulation of the two scholarships
Non-French speaking laureates are encouraged to take French classes during their studies in France
NOT eligible: PhD students, applicants pursuing short-term programmes (e.g. as trainees or summer courses), or a stay within an exchange program at a French institution/MBA programme.

Benefits

Living allowance of 860€ per month
Exemption of visa application fee, exemption of EEF (Etudes en France) application fees
Social welfare, public liability and repatriation insurance
Free additional health insurance (mutuelle) which costs 300€ for non-laureates
A public accommodation will be provided by Campus France at below market rent
Meal discount at university restaurants with meals at 1€
A dedicated team from Campus France that organizes social and cultural activities to help students settle in France
Exemption of the registration fee (frais d’inscription) at public institutions: 3770€ for a Master degree (depending on the nature of the degree, the inscription fee might differ)*
Round trip flight tickets from Hong Kong to Paris (to be confirmed each year)

* If you apply for a non-public institution, the registration fee cannot be covered by the scholarship.

Motivation letter e.g. Why do you want to study in France? What are your professional ambitions? etc. (PDF only)
Transcripts of previous academic records (PDF or jpeg/png image)
Previous diplomas (PDF or jpeg/png image)
Reference letters if any, two maximum (PDF only)
